Inside new Ilkeston bar where punters can go for a singalong and Prosecco slush

A former shop's transformation into a micro bar is finally complete after lockdown halted the revamp.

Tracie and Steven Smith had originally hoped to open last year but the makeover of the Suit Lounge, a store specialising in men's wedding suits, took longer than expected.

Called Gladstonian micro bar, the venue in South Street, Ilkeston, has been named after Steven's old school.

Tracie said: "We run a friendly little bar where staff get chatting to our new friends. We make time for all our customers.

"We have a singalong Sunday where everyone gets involved. Our lovely manager Cassie loves getting everyone singing."

Last week, on Remembrance Day the bar treated servicemen and women and veterans to free drinks.

Tracie said some people had mistakenly taken it for a craft ale bar but it serves a wider range of drinks.

Drinks including Guinness, Carling, John Smith's, and Rekorderlig cider are be served.

And soon customers will be able to try vodka and Prosecco slush.

The bar has a back garden that's still a work in progress.

And another new addition will be a mobile bar called Gladstonian on Tour that will be visiting festivals and available for hire for events such as wedding receptions.

"We are very proud of what we have achieved," added Tracie.

The bar will be fundraising for the charity Footprints, that the Smiths have supported for ten years.
