The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children were joined by the Middletons this Christmas.
Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and prince Louis, three, got to enjoy the special day with their grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton at their Bucklebury Manor home in Berkshire.
The Middletons' Christmas is largely kept under wraps unlike the well publicised traditions of the Royal family who traditionally spend the holiday at Sandringham House in Norfolk.
This year however, the Queen broke tradition again due to Covid and spent the day at Windsor Castle with Prince Charles and Camilla.
On Christmas Day, Prince William and Kate attended morning church service at St Mary Magdalene Church with their three children.
Photos captured the Royal family leaving the service in their care in holiday attire.
Kate's mum Carole, who owns Party Pieces, celebrates December 25 with her family in an extravagant fashion.
The business woman, 66, told The Telegraph how she begins planning just after Halloween and likes to have as many Christmas trees as possible including one in the grandchildren's bedroom.
She likes to put the youngsters at the heart of the celebrations and even lets them help decorate with a Christmas tree of their own.
Carole wrote on Instagram : "Once again this year we plan to have two Christmas trees, one for the children to decorate and one which I do myself.
"My beloved tree-top angel is looking a little worse for wear after years of service so it's time to invest in something new."
Christmas at the Middletons is a much less formal affair than the Sandringham celebrations, with Kate's dad Michael showing his fun side in fancy dress.
Pippa Middleton previously told how he developed a fun tradition of surprising the family by appearing in fancy dress and buying a new costume each year.
Carole is reportedly a very hands-on grandmother who loves to spend time with her grandchildren during the Christmas period.
The Christmas fanatic even admitted to having developed a bit of a trick to keep Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis entertained while decorating, according to royal expert Christine Ross.
She told The Express : "It's either their handmade decorations or something they made at school or something they bought just for granny's tree.
"And it gets decorated together.
"I know she's spoken before that her favourite time at Christmas is when she has all the grandkids over and they're decorating the tree."
Carole also shared memories of when Kate and her siblings Pippa and James were young, reports Cambridgeshire Live.
She wrote: "I find that the smallest present can be the one that gives the most enjoyment and entertainment to children.
"I remember that when they were young, my children found flexi-figures like these totally absorbing. A good choice of stocking fillers can give one extra time, undisturbed in bed on Christmas Day. Invaluable."
