Inside Mauricio Pochettino's emergency meeting with PSG chief to discuss Man Utd move

Mauricio Pochettino reportedly held a late-night meeting with Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo when it became clear the Argentine is a Manchester United target.

The Red Devils sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday morning after an emergency meeting between board members following Man United's 4-1 defeat by Watford.

Michael Carrick has been put in temporary charge of the Red Devils while the club looks for an interim boss before finally hiring a permanent manager at the end of the season.

Pochettino is a top target for Man United, but it would cost the Red Devils a £10million compensation fee to buy the Argentine out of his Paris Saint-Germain contract.

On Monday night, as news broke that United were keeping tabs on Pochettino, L'Equipe reports that PSG chief Leonardo went to visit the Argentine at the hotel in which he currently lives.

Leonardo allegedly wanted to 'take the pulse of the situation and gauge his desires to leave'.

The PSG sporting director is said to have left the 10pm meeting with the impression that Pochettino is not in an immediate rush to leave the French giants.

But the Argentine is believed to be interested in the United job and could take it at the end of the season.

Pochettino is said to be unsettled in the French capital with his family still residing in London.

He is also said to be growing tired with the big personalities in the dressing room, including Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi.

Man United have reportedly turned their attention to former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde.

The 57-year-old is currently out of work, and while United still want Pochettino in the long term, the Spaniard is considered a good option for an interim boss.

Valverde is understood to have spoken to United chief John Murtough about the vacant managerial position, but no decision has yet been made by either party.

Carrick took charge of his first Manchester United match on Tuesday night, with the Red Devils running out convincing 2-0 winners over Villarreal in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock before Jadon Sancho, who struggled for football under Solskjaer, opened his account with United's second, following his £73million summer move from Dortmund.
