Inside Matt Smith and Lily James' 'split' amid claims they've parted ways after five years

Matt Smith and Lily James are said to have split after five years together, but they have left fans baffled with their bizarre "break-up".

The former Doctor Who star, 37, has been romancing the Downton Abbey beauty, 30, since 2014, but they are believed to have parted ways due to their "hectic schedules".

However, shortly after the split claims emerged, Matt and Lily were pictured having lunch together in London.

The pair were seen together at The Spaniards Inn in Hampstead, north west London on Tuesday in what marked their first public outing together in four months.

Later in the day, Matt was seen hitting the town to attend Vas J Morgan's birthday bash.

The Crown star headed to Notting Hill's Laylow Club to party with pals including pop star Rita Ora, 29.

Matt was not the only one enjoying the social scene in London this week - Lily was pictured out on Monday night a day before the split claims went public.

The actress attended the Giorgio Armani Fashion Awards afterparty at Harry's Bar in Mayfair and was pictured hanging out with hunky actor Max Ianeselli.

Lily was photographed getting into a cab with Max.

Matt and Lily are reported to have split several months ago, and before their lunch on Tuesday, they hadn't been seen together since August.

The actress was also seemingly absent from Matt's birthday party in October.

A source told The Sun : "Things haven’t been right for a while, and a few months ago they decided to finally end it properly."

"It has been difficult because they have many mutual friends, so hopefully it will all stay civilised. But for now the relationship is formally off."

Mirror Online contacted Matt and Lily's reps for comment.
