Inside Manchester's newest luxury hotel, complete with canal-side cigar garden and the largest hotel suite in the city

Dakota Manchester, the latest luxury hotel to arrive in the city, will open its doors later this week and promises to bring a 'touch of Mayfair' to Manchester.

The enormous black-bricked building, a £30m development, has appeared close to Manchester Piccadilly on Ducie Street, and boasts 137 rooms including 20 suites.

Dakota Manchester is also home to a 'cigar garden', a champagne room, and a new brasserie restaurant with waterside views across Piccadilly Basin.

Every room within the hotel comes with a rainfall shower, a smart TV with a full Sky package, high-speed wi-fi, and a small refreshments area.

The garden king rooms include their own private garden terraces, while the signature and executive suites provide super king-size beds and two separate en suites.

The jewel in the crown of the new Dakota Manchester is the Grand Deluxe Suite on the top floor of the eight-storey hotel. The swish penthouse suite is the largest in the city, with its own lounge, dining area, two bedrooms, walk-in wardrobe, fireplace, bathrooms, and rooftop terrace.

Soft mohair blankets on each bed hark back to Dakota's roots in Scotland.

The Dakota Grill is a new restaurant at the heart of the hotel, a brasserie serving a classic menu of seasonal ingredients with several private dining areas.

Outside, a purpose-built 'cigar garden' has been filled with an olive tree, overhead vines and rust-coloured soft furnishings, able to hold around 30 guests at a time.

Guests will pass by a cabinet of high-quality cuban cigars before heading out to the terrace, which will be warmed by gas fires.

An additional waterside terrace provides space for al fresco drinking and dining for up to 80 guests.

A cocktail bar will serve signature classics as well as in-house creations.

The interiors have been designed by Amanda Rosa, who has delivered a dark and lavish feel with lots of leather and velvet. Even the inside of the lifts are lined with a crocodile-textured deep burgundy leather.

Founder of Dakota Hotels Ken McCulloch, said: "The most important thing for me is a hotel that makes you feel special, it’s the finer details that make all the difference.

"I have only the simplest of tastes. I only want the best. It’s all about the simple things done brilliantly. There’s no place like home, but we’re working on it."

This will be the fifth hotel in the Dakota Hotels Group, joining ones in Edinburgh, Eurocentral, Glasgow and Leeds.

Dakota Manchester will open at 29 Ducie Street on Saturday May 18.
