Inside Lisa Marie Presley's friendship with Elvis star Austin Butler

Lisa Marie Presley was rushed to hospital on Thursday following a possible cardiac arrest, but sadly died shortly after.

The daughter of Elvis Presley was put onto life support in intensive care after reportedly being put into an induced coma and being fitted with a temporary pacemaker.

The star's mother Priscilla Presley confirmed her daughter's death saying: "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.

"She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."

Her death comes just days after Lisa Marie, 54, had attended the Golden Globe Awards to see Austin Butler honoured for his portrayal of her late father.

The pair had been snapped regularly and often publicly praised each other as the actor tried to perfect his King of Rock n Roll act.

Shortly before the Baz Luhrmann film was released, Lisa Marie gave Austin's attempts her seal of approval, saying he had been able to "channel" her dad.

Speaking to EW in a special documentary about the film, she said: "It's almost as if he channeled him. He put everything he had, his heart, his soul, everything he had into researching, reading, watching, learning. He honoured him in every way possible."

And she doubled down on her comments on social media, writing on Instagram in May last year: "If Butler does not win an Oscar for the role, I will eat my own foot. You can feel and witness Baz's pure love, care, and respect for my father throughout this beautiful film, and it is finally something that myself and my children and their children can be proud of forever."

After the movie's release, the pair kept in touch, with Austin rocking up to the birthday party of Elvis, which would have marked his 88th birthday.

Director Baz, 60, and actor Austin, 31, flanked Lisa Marie as they arrived at the Formosa Café in West Hollywood, which was one of Elvis’ favourite places to go when he was alive.

Days later, Austin gave Lisa Marie and her mum Priscilla, 77, a shout out as he took to the Golden Globes stage to accept the award for best actor in a motion picture.

Midway through his speech - which he carried out with an Elvis-style twang - Austin said: "The Presley family, thank you guys for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie and Priscilla, I love you forever."

Both Lisa Marie and Priscilla were visibly emotional at his words. The ladies of the Presley family were reportedly present at the Elvis table inside the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton hotel when Butler commended them for their support during the filming process.
