Inside Lily Allen and David Harbour's 'weird' Brooklyn home they call 'the clown house'

Lily Allen and her husband David Harbour have given fans an extensive tour of their "weird and wonderful" Brooklyn townhouse.

The Smile singer, 37, and Stranger Things star David, 47, live in their American abode "as if they’d inherited the home from a kooky Italian nonna with fabulous taste", the couple's designer Billy Cotton explains in a new feature about the eye-catching propery.

In a nod to Lily's British heritage, the couple's kitchen boasts a traditional English country vibe, while their living room is filled with colour and double-sided sofa covered in tufted emerald velvet.

"Lily is someone who lives with color in a deeper way than most. Her taste is bold, silly, fun, eccentric—it’s exciting," David says when discussing his bold Brooklyn base.

The couple - who tied the knot in September 2020 - have filled their townhouse with wall-to-wall floral carpet, sculptural freestanding bathtubs, colourful furniture and bold patterned wallpaper.

Speaking with Architectural Digest while giving tour of her home, Lily explains how she and David were warned about risking the resale price of their property by added such a personal touch, but wanted to "live in a way that works for us".

David goes on to explain how "the kitchen is right there" when you walk into their home - meaning guests feel welcome as they arrive in "the heart of their home".

"My kids call this the clown house," Lily confesses, "but they say it in the most loving way."

The mum-of-two - who shares daughters Marnie Rose and Ethel with ex-husband Sam Cooper - has previously lived in London and the English Cotswolds.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Lily shared a collection of snaps from the shoot and told her fans: "Our house featured on the cover of @archdigest this month.

"Thank you @billycotton genius designer and now good friend, I love what we have built together with @designbuildmade. Thank you @amyastley for having us in your magazine. @simonpwatson took the photos, and @mayer.rus wrote the words which you can read online."

The star's fans and famous friends were quick to compliment Lily and David on their stunning property.

"So gorgeous," author Dawn O'Porter told the star, as actress Jaime Winstone gushed: "Delicious! So stunning x."

"Nothing has ever made me feel so basic," one Instagram user declared, as another added: "Wooooof total dream"

Speaking in 2020, Lily discussed how important her home - particularly the kitchen - is to her as she began work on her dream interior project.

"I don’t want it to be just a place where food is prepared, I want it to be where the kids come home from school and dump their bags on that table, where they want to be doing their homework while I’m cooking their food," she explained on the River Café Table 4 podcast.

"I want it to feel like the engine room of our lives: where we communicate and share ideas together, emotions, talk about what’s happening with our day, unpack how we’re experiencing the world."

She went on to add: "I just love a Sunday roast. I love the ritual of it. I love getting up early on a Sunday morning and peeling all of my potatoes and putting them in the fridge to dry out. I just love all of the different bits.

"I think it’s really important for my kids, and slightly manipulative as well, because I know they’ll always come back to me on the weekends because they’ll know that roast dinner is always going to be there at three o’clock on a Sunday afternoon. They’ll always come home."
