Inside Kellie Harrington's relationship with partner Mandy Loughlin

Kellie Harrington is an Olympic champion after winning gold on Sunday morning - but her partner couldn't watch the bout live.

The Dubliner defeated Beatriz Ferreira of Brazil to win the gold medal in the lightweight division to emulate Katie Taylor's victory from nine years ago.

Harrington has been in a relationship with Mandy Loughlin for 12 years after meeting her through boxing.

Mandy still teaches boxercise, but no longer competes in the sport and recently revealed that she can't watch any of her partner's fights as she gets too nervous.

She told The Irish Sun before the Olympics: “I won’t be watching any of the fights. I’ll be holding the phone in anxiety texting everybody to see how she’s getting on.

“I can’t watch when she fights at all."

The couple enjoy holidaying together - taking a trip to Killybegs in Donegal in September last year.

They brought their two dogs and made the most of their time off by going for walks and swimming in the sea.

Speaking after her first Olympics win over Italian Rebecca Nicoli, Harrington said she would be back home with her partner in no time, saying: "I’ll be home before I know it sitting at home, eating coffee slices and drinking tea with my two dogs and Mandy."

Harrington hails from Dublin's north inner city, while Mandy is from Foxrock, and things have changed a lot from when they first met.

Harrington previously told The Irish Times: “When I met her I didn’t actually like her. She was so cocky like.

"It was like I’m from town and she’s from there. I was like ‘she’s full of herself’. Didn’t like her at all."

But the 31-year-old insists that Mandy is no longer a "Foxrock head" and class differences don't come into their dynamic.

She describes her partner as her "best friend" and has said that any arguments they have only make their relationship stronger.
