Inside Kate Garraway's peaceful sanctuary as Derek Draper finally comes home

Kate Garraway has shared glimpses inside her North London home which has now undergone a major renovation to make it accessible for her husband Derek Draper after his return from hospital.

The former political lobbyist spent a year under the care of doctors following his devastating battle with coronavirus, but he has now finally returned to his wife and two kids Darcey and Billy.

Before getting the green light form doctors, Good Morning Britain presenter Kate, 53, set about completely renovating the ground floor - adding a downstairs bedroom, a wet room and wheelchair ramps for her husband.

In her documentary Finding Derek, Kate revealed she had added a hospital bed to the downstairs room and she planned to sleep in the room alongside him so they could be together.

At the time, Kate explained: "'At the moment what we're doing, we've got an occupational therapist that deals with the lay out of the home, looking at putting in a wet room - basically, ground floor living.

"He'll either be on a stretcher or a wheelchair. And also they're trying to figure out how to put a lift in the garden."

The television star also revealed that she had a lift fitted in order to support her husband, who will be using a wheelchair.

The home also has an alarm system to help Derek communicate with the family.

Before the home makeover, the pair shared a bedroom upstairs and Kate posted pictures of their cosy bed striking blue walls.

The GMB host shared a snap of herself cosied up under the white bedsheets, showing off the wooden bed and teal paint.

It seems the star is a fan of her candles, and she had one sitting on a delicate white tray on her leg.

A gorgeous artistic painting hangs above the bed, decorated with a metallic gold frame.

The telly star's bedroom also features a white wardrobe with mirrored doors and chic cream carpets.

She also has an incredible chest of drawers in a dark oak, which are full to the brim with clothes.

Mum-of-two Kate shared a snap of her messy room on Instagram, joking about her belongings strewn all over the floor.

Kate and Derek's beautiful home has three floors, which is ideal for Darcey and William as there's lots of space for them.

Her large hallway has wooden parquet flooring, and fresh white walls, with matching white stairs and a stripy runner.

The couple's kitchen is one of the areas that was transformed during the renovations.

Meanwhile, in the garden, Kate and Derek added their very own touches.

Kate once said: "We bought this house because of the garden. I love gardening and Derek likes being in the garden and giving instructions.

"When we first moved in, it was covered in brambles, but there were also these yellow irises he adores."
