Inside Kanye West's downward spiral as the rapper's Donda Academy closes

Kanye West has been widely condemned in recent weeks following a series of vile racist outbursts which have already cost him lucrative partnerships with some of the world's biggest brands.

The rapper, who changed his name to Ye in 2021, dropped off Forbes billionaires' list on Wednesday and now his school, Donda Academy, has become the latest victim of the controversy.

The private school has reportedly closed with immediate effect after Kanye shared a series of anti-Semitic comments on social media.

"At the discretion of our Founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately," read an email received by parents.

"THERE IS NO SCHOOL TOMORROW," the message continued according to The Times.

45-year-old Kanye first sparked outrage as he wore a 'White Lives Matter' shirt at a surprise Yeezy fashion show on October 3.

'White Lives Matter' was written in bold white letters on the back of the shirt, a response to the Black Lives Matter movement which was started in 2013 following the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.

The Anti-Defamation League has previously called the phrase 'White Lives Matter' a hate slogan.

Kanye was criticised by the likes of Jaden Smith, Vogue fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and Gigi Hadid for wearing the shirt.

"It didn't land and it was deeply offensive, violent, and dangerous," Gabriella, who was in attendance at the show, wrote in a series of posts on her Instagram Stories.

Ye didn't take too well to Gabriella's criticisms and shared photos of her on his page to make fun of her fashion choices.

He then took aim at his ex-wife Kim Kardashian as he accused her of "basically kidnapping" their daughter Chicago West.

Kanye re-shared his claims that Kim threw a secret birthday party for their daughter Chicago in January this year. He said the reality star refused to tell him where the event was, although 42-year-old Kim has denied these claims.

Kim's sister Khloe Kardashian pleaded with Kanye on Instagram to "stop tearing Kimberly down" and urged him not to use their family "when you want to deflect".

The former couple later both turned out to support their daughter North West while she played basketball, with Kanye wearing his controversial 'White Lives Matter' top yet again.

A source told the Daily Mail the SKIMS founder "avoided him" and noted the pair did not speak over the course of the match.

Kanye then went on a series of anti-Semitic rants on Instagram and Twitter, resulting in his social media accounts being suspended.

He had his Instagram account blocked after a now-deleted post which involved anti-Semitic tropes, accusing Sean "Diddy" Combs of being controlled by "the Jewish people".

He later tweeted: "I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.

"The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda."

Following the ban, he entered into an agreement to purchase controversial social media platform Parler.

Ye took part in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan last week and said he "fought fire with fire" when posting his anti-Semitic comments.

During the chat offered a half-hearted apology and said: "I will say I'm sorry for the people that I hurt with the death con, with the confusion.

"I feel like I caused hurt and confusion and I am sorry for the families of the people who had nothing to do with the trauma that I had been through."

Kanye also slammed Mark Zuckerberg for kicking Donald Trump of social media and said social media platforms "feel they're more powerful than the US government".

Major fashion house Balenciaga became the first brand to announce the end of their relationship with Kanye following his racist comments.

"Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist," Kering said in a statement to WWD.

They were followed by Adidas, Foot Locker and Peloton. Ye's wax work figure has also been "retired" from Madame Tussauds.

He was also escorted from Skechers’ corporate office in Los Angeles on Wednesday after arriving "unannounced and uninvited", according to the shoe brand.

The company said Kanye and his party were made to leave the premises as he was "engaged in unauthorised filming".
