Inside Ireland's most expensive house as 'magnificent' home on Dublin's 'premier road' sold for huge price

The property deemed 'Ireland's most expensive home' has been sold in Dublin for an eye-watering price.

No 73 Ailesbury Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, went on sale last September for a cool €14 million.

The home has since been sold, albeit for a reduced price of €11.7 million.

The sale of the mansion was completed on February 16, according to the Property Price Register, and is "the most valuable transaction to have taken place in the Irish residential market so far this year", the Irish Times reports.

It is not yet known who bought the "truly an exceptional property" situated in one of the capital's most exclusive postcodes.

Located on Dublin's "premier residential road", the "outstanding seven bedroom family residence" spans 4,768 square feet and comes with its own manicured three-hole putting green.

Built in 1913, this "imposing grand house" sits with a backdrop of south-facing manicured gardens on an acre of land.

Estate agents Colliers say of the house: "A classical early-20th century city detached home of elegant proportions surrounded by extensive private and secluded manicured gardens, offering the discerning purchaser the opportunity to acquire a magnificent family home situated on the south side of the renowned tree-lined Ailesbury Road in Dublin 4.

"This truly exceptional property has two separate gated entrances from Ailesbury Road, comprising features such as box bay windows and French doors, decorative cornices embellished with decorative mouldings, Adam style fireplaces in entrance hall, formal dining room and formal drawing room.

"The property boasts beautifully proportioned south facing reception rooms opening out to the spectacular terrace and gardens, as well as a well-planned English style kitchen and breakfast room with access to the balustrade terrace."

The house's new buyers can take the lift to the first floor where they will find "an exquisite principal bedroom with substantial dressing room and bathroom suite", as well as six bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

As for the gardens, they are laid out with "wonderful secret areas interconnected by meandering pathways", as well as a "wooded area with trickling brook and rock waterfall".

Architect Joe Lawrence advises that the house and the garden to this property "are unique and quite special".

He said: "To substantially increase the size of the house for future needs, it is important to retain this special character. With a considered design, we propose to extend the property to 14,000 sq.ft without taking away from its original character.

"By careful design, this can be achieved, without damaging its existing special qualities.”

The listing on MyHome.ie, which has since been taken down, added "The overall design strategy is underpinned to respecting the existing character of the house and its wonderful garden. This was done by providing a design to simply extrude the existing volume of the main house eastwards and to construct a new basement separate to the existing footprint.

"A long, wintergarden structure at ground floor deepens the plan and connects directly to a large stone paved terrace at the rear. Natural light and fresh air are provided at basement level through the creation of three sunken, tree courts.

"The design concept extends an area of circa 10,000 sq.ft of superb accommodation for future needs, to include multi-functional cinema, wine cellar, 20m swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym."

Meanwhile, the location of the home on Ailesbury Road means the new owners can enjoy "a leafy setting in Dublin 4’s embassy belt with the convenience of being within walking distance of Dublin’s Central Business District and St Stephen’s Green".
