Inside industrial unit destroyed by devastating fire in Long Eaton

The devastating impact of a fire in Long Eaton has been shown in a picture taken of the aftermath.

More than 10 fire crews across three counties were called to the blaze which ripped through an industrial unit in Meadow Lane, Long Eaton.

The fire broke out at around 4.45pm on Monday, July 27 and crews urged people to keep away from the area.

Onlookers reported seeing a "raging fire" with "masses" of smoke as well as hearing a "large explosion".

Residential, industrial and domestic properties were temporarily evacuated, with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service confirming the fire started in a car garage off nearby Chatsworth Avenue.

Derbyshire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, with parts of neighbouring Clifton Avenue blocked by police as investigations took place.

David Diggins, station manager for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, spoke to Nottinghamshire Live at the scene and said it had been a "challenging job" for the firefighters.
