Inside home from hell after squatters 'destroyed building' and 'left faeces'

The owner of a property that was taken over by squatters has claimed they have "destroyed the building" and left human faeces in one of the rooms.

Lottie Watts is one of the directors of Worrall Road Estates, who own 45 High Street - one of three properties along the street where closure orders were enforced by police last Friday.

Avon and Somerset Police secured the closure order on the three occupied properties last week after "escalating criminality and antisocial behaviour (ASB)" at 39-40, 45 and 46 High Street — addresses which squatters had occupied in recent weeks.

Ms Watts told Bristol Live "threatening and appalling language" was left on walls.

The property owner claimed the graffiti left on the walls included messages threatening they would return to the property.

Police have said there has been extensive damage done to the three properties, including litter and graffiti.

And now one of the property owners has spoken out about the condition her property was left in.

Ms Watts - who already raised concerns about the damage being caused to the building shortly after it was occupied - claimed: "They left human faeces in one of the rooms, food all over the place, destroyed the building and left threatening and appalling language on the walls."

She claimed they were "out of control" and "have caused a lot of harm and disruption to many people."

"This is a Grade II Listed Building and we will have to suffer the consequences of cleaning up this mess," she continued.

"We will be putting security measures in place now but the fact that we are even forced to do this to our own building and 'batten down the hatches' so to speak is quite frankly ridiculous in a society that is supposed to be civil.

"Post Covid-19 there were many messages and thoughts spreading around the country to help neighbours and be kinder to one another, yet the fact that these people treat other strangers in this way is despicable."

Ms Watts said the squatters' actions caused them extreme distress and disruption.

She claimed they tried to negotiate with the occupants to see if they would leave without the need for enforcement, adding they agreed to their demand of £5,000 to leave.

"To then leave the building in this disgusting state is appalling" (bristolpost WS)

"We agreed their request and then they ran us around in circles for a week before saying that they never intended to accept the money," she continued. "We tried to work with these people and they just mocked us.

"To then leave the building in this disgusting state is appalling.

"I hope these people one day in many years time look back and feel ashamed of themselves for what they have done.

"We just hope they leave us alone in the future - we just want to continue with our work now and put this behind us."

Ms Watts praised the police for their support, describing them as brilliant and absolutely wonderful.

A representative for the squatters has been approached for comment by Bristol Live.
