Harry Kane enjoyed holidays at two of Tottenham owner Joe Lewis' resorts in the build-up to the storm surrounding his return to training.
Kane, 28, believed he was granted extended leave by Spurs chiefs after captaining England to the final of Euro 2020 last month.
But the striker was left aghast as the club failed to communicate this, leading to claims he was shirking training with a view to forcing a transfer to Manchester City.
Relations between Kane and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy were already strained before the fiasco due to a disagreement about an alleged gentleman's agreement allowing the former to leave this summer.

Kane's extended break at two of Lewis' resorts worsened the situation and Levy is no longer picking up the phone to City regarding the player.
Kane travelled to the Bahamas with his wife, childhood sweetheart Katie Goodland, and their three children to stay at the exclusive destination on New Providence.
Known as Albany, the resort was co-founded by Lewis, popstar Justin Timberlake and golfers Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.
It boasts 600 acres of land on the sun-kissed coastline as well an 18-hole golf course designed by South African former world No.1 Els.
Albany comprises a luxury hotel, a water park, a spa and a plethora of bars and restaurants, not forgetting the mega-yacht marina.
After a week in the Caribbean paradise, Kane was informed he could spend another week in North America and travelled to Lewis' plush Isleworth Golf and Country Club.

The 600-acre venue describes itself as "one of the most prestigious private golf club communities in the world, featuring championship golf and a collection of amenities paired with extraordinary estate homes".
The resort is situated near Orlando, Florida and Kane spent time with his family visiting local attractions including Disney World.
However, Kane is then said to have received a call telling him Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo would like him to report for training.
There seems to have been a breakdown of communication between the Tottenham hierarchy regarding Kane's return date.
The Premier League Golden Boot holder was due to return to north London for pre-season training on 2 August before he was granted an extra week away.
What exactly happened behind the scenes at Tottenham remains unclear and Kane is frustrated the issue has not been put to bed.
The striker re-joined his teammates in training for the first time on Tuesday, but he has not travelled to Portugal for Thursday evening's Europa Conference League play-off tie versus Pacos de Ferreira.
