Inside Graeme Jones' first Newcastle training session in interim charge after Steve Bruce's exit

Graeme Jones has overseen his first training session in 'interim' charge of Newcastle United following Steve Bruce's departure.

The former Magpies head coach left his post on Wednesday morning by 'mutual consent' after his 1,000th match in management ended in defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.

Bruce thanked staff and players in the club statement, but admits it could be his final job in football after opening up on the stresses of his time in charge with the Daily Telegraph.

Jones has been tasked with leading the team for Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace, and will be supported by Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence, Ben Dawson and Simon Smith.

Newcastle shared a video of the former Luton Town manager's first training session on Wednesday on social media.

The footage begins with players gathering on the pitches at the Benton base, before being split by orange and yellow bibs and led on fitness drills.

A quick water break preceded a passing exercise overseen by Jones and Clemence, before Martin Dubravka, who is yet to make an appearance this season following an injury sustained at Euro 2020, was given a warm welcome on to the pitch.

Drone footage then goes on to show simultaneous six-a-side matches, with highlights including goals from Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin as well as an emphatic strike from Joelinton.

The video then draws to a close with a shooting drill, with Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, and Fabian Schar among those to express their delight at finding the back of the net.
