Inside government quarantine hotel with strict no leaving rule

Good Morning Britain went inside a government quarantine hotel today as new rules come into force, with people not allowed to leave their rooms.

From today, Brits returning from 33 "red-list" countries will have to quarantine in designated hotels for 10 days and 11 nights, at a personal cost of £1,750.

All arrivals, regardless of where they're coming from, are required to isolate at home, get a negative test result up to 72 hours before they arrive, and get fresh tests on Days two and eight of isolation.

Now Good Morning Britain's Nick Dixon has shared a glimpse inside one of the hotels beside Heathrow Airport - reports Mirror Online.

Footage of cleaning staff clad in PPE shows them spraying down surfaces with disinfectant, and previously communal areas.

The Renaissance Hotel behind him, Nick explained: "In the case of the Renaissance Hotel, everyone here is pretty much in a complete lockdown.

"The first passengers will be arriving for their first quarantine within the next 24 hours, so the only people who are allowed inside the building are those who have been tested.

"The staff will be tested every single day throughout this entire process. Everyone at all times must follow a long list of literally hundreds of safety protocols and measures to make sure everything goes according to plan.

"There will be security guards inside and out the building to ensure the people stay in their rooms, that no one is leaving, that no one is mixing."

Nick explained that the measures are in place in 16 different hotels for now - but that number could rise depending on demand.

The cameras then entered the hotel, giving viewers a look at the protective perspex screens at reception, chefs masked up in the kitchens, and cleaning staff with canisters of disinfectant on the backs as they sprayed the lobby.

The footage also showed a printed document that comes in each hotel room, outlining what guests can and cannot do during their stays.

And cutting to the area usually used for the hotel restaurant, Nick told that it was currently the base for the room service operation.

He said: "Seven different teams of hotel staff will be working in this area, wearing PPE, packing meals in these bags before they're sent up to individual rooms."

Managing Director of Arora Hotels, Vincent Madden, added: "Only residents and those working will be allowed into the hotel grounds. All the staff will be tested every single day."
