The new owners of George Michael’s £19 million London house are set to give the Grade II-listed property an overhaul after buying the mansion in a hotly contested private deal in 2020.
Little was known about the interiors of the property, which the Wham! singer bought in 2002 for £7.65 million, but planning documents now reveal the layout of the late popstar’s luxurious home.
The semi-detached red-brick property, parts of which date back to 1688, currently boasts five bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms and three with adjoining dressing rooms.
A grand master bedroom currently dominates the first floor, featuring a curved bay window and a separate large dressing room leading on to a master bathroom with a freestanding bath in the centre.
On the floor above, a second bedroom opens out onto a terrace overlooking the garden and has a private study, dressing room, walk-in wardrobe and en suite shower room.
A drawing room and dining room on the ground floor open out onto a terrace with steps leading down into the garden, described by one Highgate estate agent as “particularly good”, with views of Hampstead Heath.
There is also a swimming pool in the garden, which Kate Moss has said the singer would let her and her daughter climb over the wall between their gardens to swim in.
There are not one but two kitchens on the lower ground floor, one of which is open plan to the family room, the other leading on to a pantry, as well as a living room.
The house has been described as unusually up to date for the street it is on, with modern bathrooms and kitchen meaning it was ready to move into when it went up for sale.
By comparison, when Jamie Oliver bought a £9 million house on the same street in 2015 he “had to rip everything out and start again”.
The local couple who bought the property for “significantly more” than the asking price are now planning a subtler makeover if they are granted planning permission.
They are hoping to add a small bedroom with en suite shower room for a housekeeper on the lower ground floor alongside a new boot store and second kitchen/utility room.
A dining room and living room will open out onto the garden at basement level, along with a snug. The second kitchen will be moved to the ground floor.
An additional bedroom will also be added on the top floor, while only the first-floor master bedroom will still have a dressing room attached.
