Inside Escape to the Chateau's Dick Strawbridge's office and why it has a boat

Dick Strawbridge has given an insight into his office inside his French chateau, and it features a boat over his fireplace as a nod to his former life.

The 61-year-old star of Channel 4 series Escape to the Chateau, has shared a picture of himself sat at his desk while speaking to contributors to his offshoot show, Make Do and Mend.

The moustachioed favourite bought the chateau for £280,00 when he and his wife Angel Adoree decided to give up their lives in the UK for a new adventure across the Channel.

After renovating the property, Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson which is located in the Pays-de-Loire, is now worth a whopping £2 million.

Dick's office is full of antiquities with his huge wooden desk looking like it has seen a fair few decades.

On the walls there are faded black and white photos which might be from Dick's formative years, as well as a whiteboard on which different projects and key information is being kept.

Dick captioned the post with the pic: "Throwback to Dick in his office chatting to our lovely Make Do and Mend contributors all about their upcoming projects!"

The peeling wallpaper in the office is covered by a series of photos and on an impressive fireplace is a mantlepiece which houses a large model boat.

This seems to be a nod to a time when Dick would join his son James for travelling around the Cornish coastline.

Their boat, the Morwenna, would transport them to local food producers, where they would invite them onto their boat for a competition to see who cooks the best dish.

This was all captured on film for the series, The Hungry Sailors.

Dick has also bought a barge in the past, off of eBay, and had it transported from Birmingham to his chateau, where it has been christened The Boat in the Moat.

In a recent interview, Dick and Angel - who married in 2015 and share two children, Arthur Donald, eight, and Dorothy Francis, seven - admitted that it has been a "tough" past 12 months.

Speaking on her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, Zoe Ball asked: "Dick, how was lockdown over in France?"

She continued: "I mean, for you two I imagine there is always something to be doing in the chateau.

"But, was it tough out there?"

"It was," Dick replied.

"It has been, interestingly, and it’s been a year-and-a-half, it’s been very different, but the thing is, there’s always something to do.

“So it’s not like we’ve been confined - there’s so much space and doing things with the children."

He added: "We’ve been quite lucky, as a family I think we’ve come through it well.

"Of course, we’ve got Angela’s mum and dad living across in the coach house, so we’ve got a family unit here, which sort of has support, which is very lucky indeed."

*Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend is on Channel 4 on Thursdays at 9pm
