Inside Edinburgh's new zero waste supermarket with milk machine and peanut butter blender

A new zero-waste supermarket has launched in the capital, opening their first Edinburgh store on Wednesday.

Following their success in Glasgow, the new style of eco-supermarket has moved east, with their new Dalry shop now ready for business.

Run as a social enterprise, teams have been working hard in recent weeks to transform the former Maplin Electronics store into a new sustainable food shop.

With four sites already in Glasgow, Lovacore's new Edinburgh site will now be their biggest in Scotland, stocking everything you need - just without the packaging.

Hoping to bring a more sustainable way of shopping to the city, inside the shop there is a huge selection of organic fruit and vegetables as well as other fresh produce.

Items such as cereal, grains and even popcorn have been poured into huge dispensers, with reusable paper bags and jars ready to be filled and refilled.

In addition, there is even a milk vending machine, a peanut butter maker and fresh flowers in season from Lovacore's gardens available to purchase.

With the shop now owning a plot of land around 13 miles from the Dalry supermarket, teams will be growing an organic garden to help supply the shop all year round, as well as working with local suppliers.

Speaking about the new opening, Reuben Chesters, Managing Director said: "We’re absolutely delighted to be opening this

branch on Dalry Road in Edinburgh.

"It’s going to be our largest branch to date and a flagship showing that an alternative to damaging supermarkets really is possible.

"We can localise food and make it work for the benefit of society and the environment instead of running it for the benefit of shareholders. We hope the people of Dalry and Edinburgh will join us to build a food system fit for the future.”
