Inside Edinburgh Old Town's sun-trap 'whisky garden' - with takeaway drams on offer

Stashed down a narrow Medieval close in a former Victorian pumphouse, The Devil’s Advocate is one of Edinburgh's most-loved whisky bars.

The bar is nearly stocked to the rafters with hundreds of bottles of Scottish whiskies and every other spirit imaginable.

Having been closed during lockdown, the Old Town bar has reopened with an outside 'whisky' garden terrace, serving up the best of Scotland's national drink as well as inventive seasonal cocktails and pints of craft beer.

There's beer from local Leith brewers Pilot pouring from the taps and almost every Scottish whisky you can imagine on the back bar.

Just swinging by? No bother - get a dram to go (we drink ours with a takeaway pint accompaniment).

Their new opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday between midday and 10pm and you need to be quick off the mark when it comes to booking your terrace table - they've been fully booking out as whisky-lovers come to support the local business.

Social distancing measures are in full effect - when you arrive there are signs outlining where to wait to be seated and floor arrows to mark out their one way system however team Devils are always on hand to assist.

If you go inside the building to use the toilet or order a drink please make sure to wear a mask in line with the latest lockdown guidance and use the hand sanitizer stations that the staff have set up to keep you safe while you sup on our national bevvy.
