EastEnders Lola's real-life health battle has been revealed after her emotional soap exit.
Danielle Harold has opened up about a health condition that she has suffered from for years, while filming the popular soap.
The actress was taken to hospital for the first time when she was 15 as she learned she had a painful chronic bladder infection.
She has talked about how this has affected her throughout her life.
She said: "When I was in Year 10, I fell ill and I was in and out of hospital."
Danielle explained that the condition started to impact her education due to being in and out of hospital so much.
She added: "At that point I just gave up. I didn’t try with my GCSEs and I only got one.
"After that I worked as a waitress, but I didn’t really enjoy it. I lost all my confidence and I didn’t believe in myself."
EastEnders viewers were left in tears during Lola Pearce's cancer diagnoses over the last few months.
The character died last week after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour last year.
Scenes aired of Lola's last moments where he family said their goodbyes.
Danielle's axe from the programme came as part of new boss Chris Clenshaw’s plan to shake-up the series.
Speaking to the Sun, an EastEnders insider said: "Dan was in pieces. The call came out of the blue.
"She was not expecting the chop because her character has been a firm favourite with viewers. She’ll be written out with no option to return."
However, it seems that Danielle was excited for what her future career could bring.
When previously asked in an interview about being worried that she could be axed from the show, she said: "Not in the slightest. I've had a great time here and when it comes to an end, it comes to an end.
"With this being my first job, and because it was so crazy how I came here, I just take life as it comes. Whatever happens, happens. I like that."
