Inside Dublin Airport: Pubs, restaurants, shops and what else is open during Level Five

People travelling from Dublin Airport during Level Five have been able to avail of pubs, restaurants and some shops.

The airport is deemed an essential service with a limited number of businesses allowed to operate after security inside the terminals.

People can still avail of a pre flight pint although they are under the €9 substantial meal rules that were part of regulations earlier this summer.

A Dublin Airport spokesman said: "The Government has indicated that the operation of Irish airports is an “essential service” within the Level 5 guidelines.

"The provision of food and beverage facilities in the airside area – i.e. after security - to the very small number of people who are travelling at present is part of that service. The operator of the outlet in question requires anyone purchasing alcohol to also purchase a substantial meal at a cost of €9."

The impact of Covid however means that less people than ever are using the world's airports and Dublin Airport is no different.

Almost 263,000 passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in October, a 91% decline compared to the same month last year.

Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe fell by 89%, as more than 172,000 people travelled to and from European destinations last month.

UK traffic declined by 93% compared to last October, as more than 64,000 passengers travelled to and from Britain during the month.

Passenger volumes to and from North America decreased by 95%, as just over 19,000 passengers travelled on transatlantic routes during October.

Just over 6.9 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport between January and October this year, which is a 76% decline on the first 10 months of last year.

The impact of COVID-19 has meant that 21.4 million fewer passengers have used Dublin Airport so far this year compared to 2019.
