Inside 'disgraceful' hotel with room 'full of maggots' and 'blood spatter' on walls

A guest who visited a hotel previously branded as 'The Cecil Hotel of the UK' has called for it to shut after he found "maggots" crawling all over his bedroom floor.

The visitor, from Manchester, checked into the Grand Metropole Hotel in Blackpool in May and said cupboard where he was supposed to keep his clothes was also "full of maggots".

It comes just after other guests said they noticed "blood splatter" in their room, as well as a mouse.

In a post on Facebook, the guest said: "It's a disgrace off hotel should be shut down and lieing (sic) saying all done up scaffolding all outside supposed see a sea view more like Fawlty towers that place, disgusting."

In reply to the Facebook post, one guest stated that they were staying there at the same time however and found their room to be "very clean and tidy" with "no problems at all."

The Britannia Metropole Hotel has previously been dubbed as the 'UK's Cecil Hotel' (LancsLive WS)

The hotel on Princess Parade was last month dubbed as 'The Cecil Hotel of the UK' by one visitor who described that he "checked into a smoke stenched room with blood splatter on the wall and doors", LancsLive reports.

The rest of the review goes on to read: "We really should have turned round at that point and left but we gave it a chance, plus the proximity to the promenade, etc etc.

"Family room, decent size however only 2 towels. Had to ask twice for them. Food was ok to be fair.

"If this was the last hotel available, and everywhere had run out of tents, I’d probably just cancel.

"It’s a real shame. Such an iconic building with as said before, a workforce who were trying to keep it together the best they could. Britannia hotel, sort this out. Your staff deserve better."

One review from a stay on June 4 reads: "Absolutely disgusting a mouse was in our room in the middle of the night. We turned on the light and it ran under the bed !!!!

The guest was disgusted by what they found (Lancs Live/MEN MEDIA)

"I went down to reception and they said there is nothing they can do and wouldn’t move us !!!! I was told to go back in the morning and report it to the manager.

"The hotel manager laughed in my face when I told her there was a mouse in the room and then apologised and said I shouldn’t be laughing am sorry.

"I said to her get me the main manager and she said I am the main manager of the hotel there is no one higher than me apart from a gentleman who is the area manager. When I returned to our room after the manager would not offer a refund and done absolutely nothing for us."

Further reviews described the location as a "dirty junkie spot" whilst another described it as a "brilliant location."

The latter post was made by a visitor who accepted the concept of "you get what you pay for" and that even though "the cleaners need to go on some kind of basic cleaning course" there were a number of positive points.

The poster said: "The hotel is situated in a very good spot, it is right next to the North Pier and you can see the Tower from the bar, tram stops are close by.

"Breakfast was very nice and at the moment it is table service only. Staff were attentive and made sure you had plenty of toast.

"Bar was very basic, again table service only and everything was in cans, coffee was not very nice. Staff were brilliant, always happy and laughing."

The Mirror has approached the Britannia Hotels group for comment.
