Inside Davide Ancelotti father-son dynamic as Rangers getting real mastermind

Rangers could be getting the real mastermind behind Champions League success if they appoint Davide Ancelotti.

The Real Madrid assistant, son of legendary manager Carlo, is an option for Gers as they look to choose a new boss. Some reports from Spain suggested he was on the brink of being appointed but it is understand no decision has yet been taken and the Italian is one option being considered.

The 35-year-old has been by his father's side at Bayern Munich, Everton and Real Madrid, winning league titles and cups - and two Champions Leagues with Los Blancos.

And it is claimed Davide has had a bigger part to play in those successes than may have been previously realised.

Fulham winger Alex Iwobi played under the duo at Everton and has previously given an insight into how the father-and-son dynamic works from a player's perspective. According to him, Davide does a lot of the talking to the players and is a major influence on in-game decisions taken by his vastly experienced dad.

Recalling Ancelotti senior's arrival at the Toffees back in 2019, Iwobi told the Filthy Fellas podcast: "I remember when he first got appointed. Everyone was just eating lunch and he's walked in. Everyone's just chatting. As soon as he's walked in, everyone was silent. Everyone was just looking. That was mad.

"We'd heard about it (the appointment) but when he actually walks in, his presence was mental."

Asked how much he could learn from the 65-year-old, he made the revelation about the Rangers-linked younger boss.

He added: "He comes down and he watches training. He does have his say but it's more his son that does the talking, obviously he will have his input as well.

"If you watch the games, you'll see his son always chatting to him."
