Inside couple's mould-riddled flat they have been battling to get fixed for 14 years

A vulnerable couple that have lived in a mould riddled flat for at least 14 years have urged the housing association to fix the problem for good.

Pensioner Brian Bunn suffers from emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lives in a one bedroom flat in Birmingham with his wife Janet.

The couple say they have been battling with the issue for years but every time the walls are cleaned the "mould comes back with a vengeance", reports BirminghamLive.

Clarion Housing, who own the flat, say it has put up damp boards in the property and installed a ventillation system but the mould has still returned.

Janet, 68, said: "We have had enough now. We have been living in this for the last 14 years and I think it is time it is sorted out.

"My husband suffers from COPD and emphysema and this really does affect him. He was diagnosed two years ago and the condition is just getting worse. He shouldn't be living in conditions like this. It is just not on.

"They have been out to put damp boards up and installed a ventilation system but the mould just grows back. It is worse in the bedroom.

"We are at the end of our tether now and want them to come along and sort out the problem for good. I am sick and tired of cleaning down the walls but I have to be honest I have given up with it now as it is just no good. The mould comes back with a vengeance."

A Clarion Housing spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “The wellbeing of our residents is our number one priority and we have carried out extensive work to this property, including a new whole-house ventilation system, improved insulation and the treating and replacing of affected surfaces.

"We’re sorry to hear that the mould issue has continued despite this work. We don’t have any record of reports that the work has been unsuccessful so we’re contacting the resident urgently to arrange a further visit to assess the problem and find a solution.”
