Inside Corrie star Jennie McAlpine life off-air including secret wedding and second job

Fiz Stape has been a fan favourite in Coronation Street for what seems like forever.

But Jennie McAlpine was originally only booked for five episodes of Corrie.

When she first auditioned for the role at 17-years-old, she was studying for her A-levels and working part-time in Boots.

However, ITV bosses were so impressed with her comedy timing they extended her contract.

But were it not for her role in Corrie, Jennie would never have met her husband.

Her co-star Anthony Cotton, who plays Sean Tulley, introduced Jennie to her future partner Chris Farr.

According to the Mirror, Anthony called Jennie to say: "I'm here with your future husband. Do you want me to put him on the phone?"

Antony's introduction proved very successful as the pair started dating in 2005.

Back in 2013, Jennie stated that she wasn't looking to get married or start a family at that stage.

She told the Daily Record: "I haven’t got time – for babies or marriage. I don’t like being the centre of attention so a big wedding isn’t for me."

So it came as a surprise when Jennie and Chris revealed they had tied the knot in secret in January 2017 after 12 years of dating.

Shunning the usual celeb route, the pair had a low key ceremony at Manchester's Trafford Town Hall with only two witnesses.

Jennie surprised fans by revealing their happy news on Twitter with a simple picture of them holding hands and showing off their new wedding bands.

The Corrie actress later said she'd opted to keep things private as she 'didn't want to be the centre of attention' and was flooded with congratulations from co-stars and fans.

Jennie and Chris had already welcomed their first child, six-year-old son Albert, back in November 2018.

Then in April 2018, Jennie excitedly broke the news that she and Chris were expecting baby number two - with friends joking she'd fallen pregnant after a romantic reunion with Chris following her stint on I'm A Celebrity at the end of 2017.

Commenting on the speculation, Jennie admitted: "It's quite quick after. A few people have suggested that."

In October 2018, the soap star announced the birth of daughter Hilda.

When Jennie isn't filming on the cobbles, she can be found helping out and chatting to regulars in the restaurant she runs with Chris.

The coupe launched Annie's, named after St Ann’s Square which it sits just off, back in 2012 in Manchester city centre.

They described the vibe of the venue as 'The Rovers Return meets the Ivy' and even started selling Corrie favourite Lancashire (or should that be Betty's) hotpot.

Jennie said in 2014: "We wanted to do something together, and our whole family wanted to be involved.

"Chris is the experienced restaurateur, and I just like food. I have got no other skill or qualification for this, but I like meeting people."

Aside from Corrie, Jennie previously appeared in three episode of Emmerdale, has been a guest panellist on Loose Women and is the voiceover on Supermarket Sweep.
