Inside Corrie's Colson Smith's lively Christmas in New Zealand - off-roading to cricket

Coronation Street star Colson Smith has been enjoying the festive period overseas.

The star - best known for playing Craig Tinker on the ITV soap - has been delighting fans with snaps from his holiday abroad, as he spends Christmas miles away from the cobbles in New Zealand.

While the majority of Brits relax on the couch with boxes of chocolates and leftovers, Colson, 24, has been enjoying 'Top Gear style challenges' with loved ones during his action-packed Christmas break.

Taking to Instagram on Boxing Day, the soap star shared some snaps with his followers of his incredible trip away after previously discussing his hopes to spend Christmas in the country.

In one picture, Colson - who has family ties to New Zealand - beamed as he and his pals posed on top of off-road capable vehicles ready for a drive.

"Boxing Day 2022 - NEW ZEALAND TOP GEAR STYLE CHALLENGE," the actor captioned the snap to his 179,000 followers on Instagram.

Posing for a selfie on top of a truck parked up in a field, Craig then went on to give his fans a little insight into his cross-country drive across New Zealand.

"For the brief time I was leading the convoy… Got stuck twice," the soap star captioned the snap. "Broke down once. Toe rope snapped once."

Colson has previously admitted he classes New Zealand as his second home due to the majority of his family living over there.

Speaking to a New Zealand publication in 2020, the Corrie star explained how he and his loved ones always enjoy an adventure together whenever he is in the country.

"I would almost class New Zealand as my second home. The majority of my dad’s family are in Dannevirke in the North Island," Colson told Stuff.

"I have two aunties, two uncles and 10 cousins there. I’ve been there three times and I’m hoping I can go for Christmas next year. That’s the dream."

He went on to reveal just what he loves the most about the country.

"One thing that amazes me is how the country’s got everything. I’ve been lucky. I’ve travelled all over New Zealand and it’s a stunning, outdoor country," the soap star gushed.

"But at the same time, it doesn’t have any pretentiousness. It’s not about the newest phone or the flashiest car. It’s about the people."

Colson - who has appeared on Corrie since 2011 - continued to explain the highlight of any trip to New Zealand is being able to spend some time with his dad's side of the family.
