Inside COP26 'Blue Zone' at the United Nations climate conference in Glasgow

Leaders from across the world will attend the COP26 climate conference today after the summit officially got underway yesterday.

Glasgow's SEC is playing host to the crucial United Nations gathering which will take place from October 31 to November 12.

Around 30,000 delegates, journalists and heads of state will be at the SEC for the conference with the vast majority of discussions to to take place in the 'Blue Zone'.

The Blue Zone is managed by the UN.

It will bring together delegations from 197 parties, alongside observer organisations to share their stories at panel discussions, side events, exhibits, and cultural events.

So, what does the Blue Zone look like?

During his opening remarks the COP26 president Alok Sharma told countries that six years ago at the Paris summit, they had agreed to pursue efforts to limit temperatures to 1.5C under the Paris Agreement.

He said he believed that the conference could resolve the outstanding issues that need to be agreed to implement the Paris deal, "move the negotiations forward and launch a decade of ever-increasing ambition and action".

"Together we can seize the enormous opportunities for green growth for good, green jobs for cheaper, cleaner power.

"We need to hit the ground running to develop the solutions that we need. And that work starts today - and we succeed or fail as one."

Concluding his speech, Sharma said: "If we act now, and we act together, we can protect our precious planet.

"So, let's come together in these two weeks and ensure that where Paris promised, Glasgow delivers."
