Inside Colin and Justin's stunning new Nova Scotia hotel which looks like 'The Shining'

Colin and Justin have completed their "toughest challenge yet" with the renovation of their stunning 22-bedroom hotel in Nova Scotia.

The interior designers have put years of blood, sweat and tears into the project after snapping up the Louisbourg Hotel in Cape Breton, which they will relaunch as the North Star this summer.

The stunning property has been likened to "The Shining" by the duo, in reference to the creepy fictional Overlook Hotel in Stephen King's 1977 bestselling novel and movie of the same name.

But there's nothing horrifying about this swanky venue, which has been given an expert makeover by the talented Scots entrepreneurs, with no detail forgotten about.

Colin and Justin's achievement is no mean feat.

They have battled delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, battled "hellish" ice storms and sub zero temperatures, power cuts, issues with suppliers and even had to sleep outside in their van when things got too rough to keep going inside.

But this week they announced they have finally completed their mammoth task, and they will be officially opening for guests this summer.

The pair shared updates of their completed hotel (Instagram)

Short of being able to jump on a plane to take a look for ourselves at the hotel, we're making do with second best and taking a sneak peek at the stunning decor inside through the raft of pictures the pair have put out already.

Naturally, everything is gorgeous, inviting and screams a touch of class as well as comfort.

The stunning pad is made up of about 22 bedrooms, a beach house, staff quarters, two restaurants, a stage for entertaining, and five acres of ocean-facing grounds and a private beach.

Taking to Instagram to share their exciting news that the project has been wrapped up, Colin and Justin said they were grateful for the support they'd had from the local community in Louisbourg.

They added: "Mother Nature? Go stick this up your chilly, ice cold ass: we were NOT beaten. We’ve endured what felt like re living The Shining. Secluded and lost to the elements: our sub zero reno has been our toughest challenge to date. But we did it. We’ve got this. It takes a village... and in that regard we have had SO much support here in Louisbourg."

The designers said they had been "undermined daily" by "hellish" ice storms and the bitter, windswept winds of Atlantic Canada had "tried their best to ruin us".

But "against the odds" they've done better than they set out to achieve, by getting the place ready 12 weeks early, and have even welcomed a "surprise" corporate booking as a soft launch, welcoming 20 guests to the property.

They added: "We’ll dish on all that shortly. But for now: we’re having a rest. We’re locking down for our ‘trial run’ opening - our ‘soft’ opening. 20 guests. An adventure. And the ultimate practise run before we close AGAIN... and then reopen on June 3rd. It’s been CRAAAAAAZZZZZY!"

As you would expect, every little bit of attention has been paid to the slightest and most major of details and the interior is now as impressive as its exterior - though given what this pair do for a living, we'd be a bit worried if this was not the case!

But it hasn't been easy, even for these experts!

Colin and Justin said previously in an update on Instagram: "This hotel project has been the hardest thing we’ve ever done. Fact. But we simply won’t be beaten. We simply can’t be beaten. At least we hope we can’t. And won’t. And shan’t. And mustn’t."

There is something for everyone inside the hotel, which boasts fresh, bright and airy retreats throughout.

The couple say all of the suites are a "touchy, feely, feast for the finger" and we are quite honestly desperate to see it in real life.

Colin and Justin said it's been an equal mix of "heaven and hell" to work on their hotel, but all we are seeing is heavenly images.

They've driven the "length and breadth" of the country to furnish the rooms, with different accent tones being used in different suites, like the yellow for ocean facing rooms, and greys in others.

Suite nine, for example, has an oatmeal barnboard and plaid touches while Suite one boasts a grey beadboard and boho detail.

Swanky Benjamin Moore paint has been used throughout, as the interior designers swear by its quality and stunning look.

They've sourced finishing touches from across the globe and put their all into this hotel, so what do you think?
