Inside CNN reporter Donie O'Sullivan's personal life from small Kerry town to reporting on Capitol riots

Donie O'Sullivan shot to fame in Ireland following his coverage of the storming of the US Capitol in which four people died earlier this year.

The Kerryman remained calm amongst the chaos as he reported what was happening on the ground to CNN.

The reporter received praise from around the world for how he handled the situation with such professionalism and soon was trending on social media in Ireland.

Looking down the lens, Donie explained how Trump supporters had stormed the Capitol.

Four people died during the incident. A member of law enforcement shot one, and three others died from 'medical emergencies’.

Donie, who is from Cahersiveen in Kerry, is now a US citizen and has worked for CNN since 2016.

He began his work in journalism, working for major news outlets such as Storyful in both New York and Dublin.

The reporter works within CNN's investigative unit and focuses on tracking and identifying online disinformation campaigns.

Through this work, he was a part of the team that uncovered the Russian interference in the 2016 American election that saw Donald Trump victorious.

Donie completed his undergraduate degree in University College Dublin and went on to do a masters in political science and government at Queen's University Belfast.

The reporter has recently been back in Ireland as he shared snaps as he visited the famous Louis Copeland’s store in Dublin.

In a tweet, Donie said: "Closest @louis_copeland will get to the Sam Maguire this year."

The picture showed Donie holding up a Kerry jersey while in the store.

The reporter then travelled to Croke Park to watch Kerry play Tyrone in the All-Ireland semi-final.

Of course, the Kerry man would not come home without visiting his home town of Cahersiveen, and the reporter took to social media to share a snap of the beautiful landscape as he looked out at the mountainous backdrop.

Donie will be one of the first guests on tonight’s Late Late Show, the first show of the season.

He will be chatting to Ryan while he is still home about his work reporting during the Trump presidency and how his work has continued since.
