Shaun Ley became the BBC's political editor for London when the mayoralty began in 2000, so he's well-qualified to make a radio programme about the institution and its progress so far. I haven't heard the show, but it sounds very promising. Ken Livingstone plays a big part, apparently sticking it to Tony Blair for his memorably disgraceful - and deservedly disastrous - campaign to stop him becoming Labour's first candidate (I know someone who was so disgusted by the literature she received at the time she canceled her Labour Party membership). Nick Raynsford, chief architect of the Act will reflect on the mayoralty's evolution. The Blond talks about "whiff-waff". It goes out tonight at 8.00.
