Inside Andrew Cavenagh's Rangers impact behind the scenes during visit

Russell Martin has offered an insight into Andrew Cavenagh's Rangers visit, the manager enjoying spending time with the chairman.

After the club's suttering start to the season, Cavenagh flew into Scotland last week ahead of Martin's side taking on Hibs in the Premier Sports Cup. He took that game in and will do so again when Genk are the visitors tomorrow evening, as well as attending a board meeting tomorrow.

From the outside, the visit was seen as a worrying sign for the manager but it has been claimed it was all planned for some time and not an unscheduled drop-in.

Martin has enjoyed spending time with the chairman and says his presence at training and meeting has had a big impact around the club, including on the players.

He said: "Yeah, we had a lot of time after the game and he has been great, so he has been really consistent, so nothing has changed in that and he was great.

"He is really comfortable around the players, the players are really comfortable around him, he spent time watching training and some of the meetings that we have had and I think it's good for the staff and the players to see that someone so invested in his club now and his team and wants us to be really successful.

"I have got nothing but praise for, like I said, the ownership group, the leadership team here, they have all been great."

With poor results in Glasgow comes intense scrutiny and the 39-year-old has bore the brunt of that so far.

It is something he has referenced in press conferences after having his name chanted, and not in the manner a manager would want, by fans.

But he insists he is actually enjoying the increased scrutiny.

Asked if he had been surprised by it, he added: "No, I don't think so. Being a head coach or manager of any team and club is not easy; there are always so many opinions because of the level of interest in this game and what it does to people and how much it means to people.

"I've actually, in a perverse way, enjoyed that as well. I think you have to, I think you have to try and find enjoyment in everything and I've said to the players, I've said to the staff and it counts for us as well as individuals, the amount of growth that can come from this in this difficult period and learning could be huge, it could be brilliant for everyone and myself included.

"We just have to keep working, do what we believe in and trust that then the outcome will be positive."
