Alan Carr and Paul Drayton were married in 2018 after being in a relationship for 10 years previous and they had the whole shebang paid for by chart-topping singer Adele.
The 45-year-old 'Chatty Man' has mostly kept his life with party planner Paul, 49, private but on Tuesday evening, Paul posted a concerning image on Instagram before deleting it an hour later.
The photo showed that Paul had a black eye and he replied to a comment about how he achieved the injury by saying: "We had a bad row.”
Alan then stepped in to reveal what had happened, telling The Sun that Paul had started drinking again.
The comedian said: "While I was away filming on location the past few weeks, Paul fell off the wagon and started drinking again.
“When I arrived back home from Wales, Paul was covered in scratches and bruises from a drinking binge.
“We are now working together to get the help he needs to get better which is our number one priority right now."
The pair married in Los Angeles in 2018, with a spokesperson for Alan saying at the time: "Alan Carr married his long-term partner Paul Drayton at a small private ceremony in LA last week.
"The couple are currently on honeymoon in Mexico and are planning a big celebration with all their family and friends back in the UK later this summer. They are both extremely happy."
Alan has described being with Paul as "the best thing that ever happened to me," in his book Alantomy: The Inside Story and he had opened up about Paul's addiction to alcohol when speaking on The Kelly Hoppen podcast last year.
Alan said that lockdown was particularly hard for those with "addictive personalities" as he opened up about his relationship with Paul.
He said: "I don’t think anyone is mentioning – obviously with coronavirus – people that do have an addictive personality. It’s tough for Paul.
"He’ll say, 'shall we get a bottle?' and I go, 'no we’re not getting any rose in,' but he has been so good and I’m so proud of him."
The pair had an amazing start to married life, as Adele organised their big day as well as paying for it and officiating the wedding.
Alan and Adele have been close friends since they met in 2008 and he had been open about his desire for her to sing at the wedding.
Adele decided to take it a few steps further and got ordained so that she could make their marriage official.
Speaking on The One Show, Alan said: ‘"We’ve known her for ages, and when we told her we were getting married she said, 'Can I please plan the whole day for you?'
"She did it all at her house. So, we got in there, and there is a grand piano with a man playing Ordinary People.
"Then she sang with our first dance, it was absolutely amazing. I can never repay her, she’s a one-off as we all know."
Alan also revealed to Heat magazine: "It was amazing. Adele organised it in her back garden in LA – it was absolutely gorgeous and she paid for it all.
"I tried to give her some money and she said, 'My treat ahahahaha'. She’s just adorable. She’s the sweetest person."
