Inside abandoned home of WW2 surgeon with bottles of sedatives and empty hospital beds

The eerie rooms of an old abandoned house once owned by a WW2 surgeon have been revealed in a series of haunting photos.

The fascinating images show out dated medical examination rooms with beds, bottles of medications and a wheelchair.

The imposing colonial style house was once owned by a doctor who served in the Second World War.

Another photo shows a dusty office with a blood pressure machine, a book on cardiology, and a dated telephone on the desk.

A wolf skin rug on the floor can be spotted in a separate picture - a nod to the owner's passion for hunting.

The images were taken in northern Virginia, USA, by urban explorer and photographer Leland Kent, who runs the blog Abandoned Southeast.

"I love houses like this because they are a time capsule," he said.

Leland explained that the doctor had returned home after serving as a surgeon during the war to work at his family's medical practice. The building has been abandoned since his death several years ago, which led to a will dispute.

Images from the home's living quarters reveal peeling wallpaper on the staircase, black and white portraits adorning the mantelpiece and sideboards, offering a glimpse into the former owner's private life.

Leland said: "Other than the architecture of the house itself, the items left behind were fascinating to see and really offer a glimpse into the past as well as the former doctor's life.

"This was a family home that was once full of life. Family photos and wedding portraits remain in the living room. In the doctor's clinic, old books, medicine, and antiquated equipment offer a look into what it was like to visit a rural doctor.

"In his free time, he was an avid hunter as well, from the grey wolf skin rugs and photos of bird hunting that were scattered around the home. A photo of his beloved Chesapeake Bay retriever sits framed on his desk.

"I want to show others what life may have been like decades ago in small-town Virginia. I think it is important to photograph these old historic homes since nothing lasts forever."

Leland said the family dispute was settled in early 2021 and the house may be undergoing a renovation soon.

Earlier an urban explorer shared haunting pictures of an abandoned school with one picture showing a creepy message which says "come play with me".

Helenslee House in Dumbarton, Scotland, which used to house Keil School, has been left to rot ever since the school shut its doors in 2000 after a drop in income, Daily Record reports.

The once imposing walls of the 19th century mansion have started to crumble and one photograph shows beams falling from the ceiling as the roof has begun to cave in.

The floor is now covered in moss and debris and trees have started to grow inside the building as nature slowly reclaims the space.

Leeds-based urban explorer Kyle Urbex said: "I decided to go there and explore because of the history behind Helenslee House. It is massive inside and surprisingly tucked away in a little estate.

"You can see how much it has decayed over time. It is quite unsafe inside - especially the stairs. The steps were crumbling away so I couldn't get to the upper floor.

"Trees have started growing into the building. The old classrooms have basically been striped away by damage.

"Everything was covered in rot and decay."
