Inside a derelict chapel just outside of Bristol which is up for sale

A historic chapel with "tremendous character" has just gone on the market.

The property, which is just outside of Bristol in Cold Ashton, South Gloucestershire will be sold at auction.

Whoever scoops up the unusual building will have to renovate it, as it is currently in a state of dereliction.

Somerset Live reports the property has the bare bones of a remarkable home, with quirky period features and amazing far-reaching rural views across the St Catherine's Valley.

The Grade II listed chapel also sits on a generous plot of land, so it's the perfect opportunity for a gardener to purchase the property.

The Chapel is to be sold at auction by Hollis Morgan, the largest firm of auctioneers in the West Country.

It says valuing such a property is immensely difficult.

“The Chapel fulfils all those pre-requisites that make up the ideal auction Lot,” auctioneer Andrew Morgan MBE said.

“It is a building of tremendous character offering an ideal opportunity for the buyer to create a home to their own specification and taste.

“It enjoys a magnificent situation with an easy commute to both Bath and Bristol but, above all, the views from the building over the truly ‘English’ rural landscape make this a hard gem to value.

“What price for a home in a perfect rural idyll?

“This is why an auction is the only way to achieve the best value for all those attributes where the worth lies in the eyes of the beholder.”

Planning has already been granted for the erection of a boundary fence and replacement entrance gates, as well as internal and external alterations to include replacement of damaged joists and floor boards, replacement staircases, erection of internal stud walls and replacement window glass.

Cold Ashton is a pretty village on the A46 with the most dramatic views across St Catherine’s Valley

It has some other notable period homes, namely the magnificent Manor House, The Old School House and Old Vicarage.

In the nearby village of Marshfield there are general stores, a newsagents, doctors, vets, primary school and pre-school.

The Chapel, Lower Lynch, Cold Ashton, SN14 8JZ is for sale by auction on Tuesday, February 25 at All Saints Church Pembroke Road, Clifton, Bristol BS8 2HY.

The legal pack room and registration will be open from 6.15pm with the sale to begin at 7pm.

The Chapel is open to view for half an hour every Thursday before the sale at 2.30pm and Saturday, February 1 at 11.30am.
