Inside £1.5m Glasgow townhouse 'gem' that's Scotland's most viewed home on Rightmove

A stunning £1.5million townhouse in Dowanhill is Rightmove's most viewed home in Scotland.

The six bedroom, end-of-terrace townhouse in Glasgow's West End is an "architecturally" unique build with elaborate interiors including chandeliers, stained glass and wood panelling from a bygone time.

This opulent A-listed home is for sale from Clyde Property for the first time since 2007.

Six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a games room, formal dining room, form some of the rooms in this posh four level home.

Originally constructed in 1870, the interior was renovated for one of Glasgow's leading shipping magnates, Henderson of Henderson & Co.

Rightmove described this townhouse, which is also the second most viewed UK property, as a 'Glaswegian architectural gem'.

Upon entering the sandstone townhouse, you will pass leafy trees and the stone pillars.

The hallway provides an impressive first impression with ornate wood panelling from wall to ceiling alongside floors bedecked in checkerboard tile.

You'll find an entrance, lower living room, kitchen, games room, laundry room and the original wine cellar on the lower ground level.

The ground level includes the grand reception hallway with inlaid panelled walls, seating area and a wood-burning stove, the family lounge, an original bathroom with a top bath, fireplace and another bathroom.

On the first floor is a drawing room with stained glass windows, a home office, two bedrooms and a large shower room with beautiful tiling.

Upstairs to the second level is the main bedroom with a skylight, 'sit in' fireplace and ensuite bathroom, plus three other bedrooms and a bathroom.

Outside is a "substantial" enclosed south-facing garden with well-stocked borders and mature trees which provide the garden with natural shelter from Scottish weather.

Three storage cellars beneath the lawn are ideal for tucking away outdoor furniture, BBQs and bicycles.

Located in leafy Dowanhill, the townhouse is just steps from the west end's shops, restaurants and schools like Kelvinside Academy, and Glasgow Academy.

The location set back from Prince Albert Road offers "fantastic levels of quietude".

Rightmove’s Property Expert Tim Bannister said: "From Robbie Williams’ Wiltshire mansion, to a sprawling estate in the heart of the Cotswold’s, Britain’s fascination with amazing homes continues.

"Interestingly, alongside the extraordinary look and feel of all these properties, they are all also set in a variety of beautiful, scenic locations - from the suburbs of Glasgow down to the countryside of Hampshire."

The listing states: "As you walk through the stone pillars at the entrance to the address, under the branches of mature trees and approach the property, you will begin to note some of its unusual architectural features.

"Ornately leaded, stained-glass windows and a beautiful entrance doorway allude to the property's incredible internal architecture which simply has to be seen in person."
