Inquest opens into unexplained death of two-month-old baby

An inquest has opened into the death of a 'fit and healthy' baby from Radcliffe.

This morning (Tuesday December 15) Rochdale Coroner's Court heard that CJay Heaton Shaw Quinn was born on April 7 and lived with his parents Chantelle Shaw and Mark Quinn.

CJay was born three weeks early but was "fit and healthy other than having colic", according to police coroner's officer Paula Mills.

She told the court that at around 1.30am on June 9, CJay was bottle fed and changed, before falling asleep in his parents' bed.

At around 5am, Miss Shaw woke up to see CJay lay on his back, slightly to his side, and unresponsive.

CJay was taken to North Manchester Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Following a post mortem, the cause of CJay's death has been recorded as unascertained.

The inquest was adjourned and has been listed for a three-hour hearing on March 3 2021.
