Inquest opens into death of woman who died at train station in Stockport

An inquest has been opened into the death of a woman who died at a train station in Stockport.

Kate Hedges, 35, passed away at Gatley Station on November 27.

The inquest was adjourned to a later date following the hearing on Tuesday.

Police were called to the station at around 1.45pm following the incident.

Photos from the scene showed a number of emergency service vehicles attended.

All lines were closed between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly.

In a statement issued at the time, British Transport Police said: “British Transport Police were called to Gatley railway station at 1.45pm today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
