Inquest opens into death of 'sweet and loving' woman, 23, killed after being hit by two cars

A young American woman had been visiting her long-distance fiancé in Salford, when she was struck by two cars and killed, an inquest has heard.

Selena Mystara Meyers, from Tennessee, visited her fiancé in Worsley 'a couple of times every year', according to police coroner's officer Neil McCaffrey.

Mr McCaffrey told Bolton Coroner's Court that Miss Meyers, 23, had been walking along Worsley Road on January 26, when she was hit by two cars.

He also confirmed that Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) serious collisions unit are conducting an investigation into the incident and that enquiries are ongoing.

Area coroner for Manchester West, Alan Walsh confirmed that the preliminary cause of death has been recorded as a 'head injury'.

Prof Walsh adjourned the inquest, with a date for the full hearing yet to be decided.

Following her death, Miss Meyers' family issued a tribute through GMP.

They said: "Selena Mystara Meyers, born in Summit regional hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee to her parents Salem Ann Meyers and Ross LeRoy Meyers.

"My first beautiful daughter, quiet, sweet and loving - a good daughter.

"She was an artist with an empathetic and a kind soul, always creating, singing, painting and a writer of books and poetry.

"She always did charity work and was a loyal friend to Elizabeth Grogan - they were the best of friends through thick and thin all the years of her life.

"She lived with and was cared for by her great grandparents, Donald and Florence Lee up until she became a young lady.

"Her name Selena meant Moon Goddess - Mystara meant my stars. So she takes our moon and stars from us as she goes.
