At an inquest opening at Manchester Coroners Court, Senior Coroner Mr Nigel Meadows, described how Detective Inspector Maddocks of Greater Manchester Police had identified Mr Winterton's body.

Mr Meadows said Mr Winterton had had some contact with Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust

He requested a report from the Trust and a full report from Greater Manchester Police, with evidence from family members.

Following his death, his family paid tribute to the “one in a million” man, and now John’s girlfriend Brittany Bennett has spoken about the man she hoped to marry.

Recalling some of her favourite memories, she said: “John always wore his heart on his sleeve, he’d do anything and everything for anyone.

“He loved landscape gardening - he bought a plant from Tesco three Christmases ago and planted it in the garden and it’s grown massive, he was so pleased with it.

“The smallest things made him so happy."

Mr Meadows adjourned the inquest for review on November 11 to review the evidence.
