Inquest opens into death of mum-of-six care worker, 36, stabbed in Oldham

An inquest has opened into the death of a mum-of-six who was stabbed in Oldham.

Tamby Dowling, 36, was found dead at her home in Water Mill Avenue, Chadderton, on November 8.

Today, (Monday, November 22), coroner Catherine McKenna formally opened an inquest into the death of the care worker.

Police coroner's officer Paul Lever told the brief hearing at Rochdale Coroners Court that officers were called to the scene following reports that a woman had been stabbed and 'the offender had fled the scene'.

He added: "An ambulance was called and sadly the female, later identified as Tamby Dowling, died at the scene."

Coroner Catherine McKenna adjourned the inquest with a date for a full hearing yet to be confirmed.

Abid Mahmood, of Cambridge Street, Oldham, has appeared in court charged with Ms Dowling's murder.

The 34-year-old has also been charged with a section 18 wounding offence.

Greater Manchester Police said they had been called to reports a woman had been attacked at Water Mill Avenue, Oldham, on November 8.

Ms Dowling was found with suffered serious injuries after being stabbed.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old girl also required hospital treatment but has since been released.

After Tamby's death, her family paid tribute to the 'kind-hearted' mum-of-six.

In a statement, they said: "She was outgoing, kind-hearted, generous, and had time for everyone.

"Her door was always open, her home was filled with visitors, and her kettle was always just boiled."

They added: "She leaves behind six devastated children who she adored.

"She leaves behind her devastated brothers, sisters, mother, father, stepdad, and stepmum. She had a large family, who are all heartbroken.

"Tamby will leave a huge hole and massive impact on all the family.

"She touched the lives of countless people — the hole she has left will never be filled and our hearts are broken."
