An inquest into the death of a mum found in a cemetery days after going missing has been opened.

Kiera Pearson was found hanging in Tonge Cemetery, in Bolton, on September 11, an inquest has heard.

A huge search had been launched after the 31-year-old was reported missing nine days earlier.

An inquest into the 31-year-old's death was opened at Bolton Coroner's Court today (Tuesday, September 22).

Coroner Alan Walsh heard that Kiera had informed a friend that she planned to take her own life during a conversation on September 2.

The friend managed to dissuade Kiera from doing so and said she would 'see her later'.

However, Kiera was reported missing to police later that day.

The inquest heard that Kiera was treated as a high risk missing person by Greater Manchester Police and searches were made

A post-mortem examination gave Kiera's provisional cause of death as 'hanging'.

The inquest was adjourned, with a full hearing set to take place at a later date.

Following Kiera's disappearance, police issued an appeal for help to find her.

They said she was last seen leaving her home in Bury Road, Tonge Fold, on the afternoon of September 2.

Friends and family formed search parties, and travelled as far afield as Manchester and Blackpool in a desperate attempt to find her.

A vigil was also held outside Kiera's flat as loved ones gathered to light candles and say prayers.

However, on September 12, Greater Manchester Police confirmed they had found a body.

Friends previously described Kiera as a "genuine, down-to-earth" person with a "heart of gold".
