Inquest opens into death of man killed when electric scooter hit parked car

An inquest has opened into the death of a man who was killed when his electric scooter hit a parked car in Swansea.

Julian Thomas, of Jersey Terrace in Port Tennant, died at the scene of the crash which took place shortly before midnight on Saturday, September 19, in Baglan Street in Port Tennant.

An inquest into the 55-year-old's death was opened at Swansea Civic Centre on Thursday.

South Wales Police sergeant Steven White said: "Mr Thomas was the rider of an electric powered scooter and was involved in a road traffic collision at the location of Baglan Street, Port Tennant, at approximately 11.50pm on Saturday, September 19.

"Mr Thomas was treated at the scene however was sadly pronounced deceased."

Acting senior coroner for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Colin Phillips adjourned the inquest until April 14, 2021.

Mr Thomas' family have previously paid tribute to him and said that he "would help anyone" and would be "greatly missed".

In a statement they said: "He was dearly loved by his children, Darran, Kelly and Heulwen, his grandchildren, sister, brothers, nephews and all his friends, which there were so many.

"He was a quiet unassuming man who would help anyone.

"He will be greatly missed by all who knew him."

South Wales Police is investigating the incident and is appealing for witnesses to come forward quoting occurrence 2000344039.
