A man has since been charged in relation to Mr Smethurst's death and the defendant will appear before Crown Court, he said.

"On this basis, where there is a defendant on charges, I will suspend the investigation pending the Crown Court proceedings," the coroner explained.

Mr Walsh said there would be a review of the case on December 10.

Robert Owen Greenhalgh, 31, of no fixed address has been charged with the murder of Mr Smethurst.

A provisional trial date has been set for February 28, 2022.

Meanwhile, Bolton council is to undertaking a review of the licence of The Luxe Lounge.
