Inquest opens into death of 43-year-old who died in crash on the A46 in Nottinghamshire

The inquest has been opened into the death a 43-year-old man who died in a crash on the A46 has been opened.

Ian Barry Neal died following a collision on the southbound carriageway during the afternoon of Saturday, June 13.

Collision investigators from Nottinghamshire Police remained at the scene into the evening as they worked alongside colleagues from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue to launch their investigation and recover the affected vehicles.

The road, which was closed in both directions between its junctions with the A606 Melton Road and the A52 Saxondale Island, reopened in both directions at around 10.30pm that night.

Assistant coroner Mr Gordon Clow opened the inquest via audio link from the council house on Monday, July 20, where he confirmed Mr Neal's age, date of death and the results of a postmortem examination.

The inquest was adjourned pending further inquiries.

"Ian Neal was born on January 10, 1977 and he died on June 13, 2020. He was age 43 at the time," Mr Clow said.

"Mr Neal died at the A46 southbound, Bingham. Identification was done on June 14 at 2pm. The wife of Mr Neal identified him at the Queen's Medical Centre.

"The postmortem has been carried out and the provisional cause of death was multiple injuries.

"I would like to express my condolences to his family and friends for his passing in such tragic circumstances."
