Inquest opens into death of 12-year-old Sneinton girl who died last month

An inquest has opened into a 12-year-old Sneinton girl who died last month.

Fiona Gingell, assistant coroner for Nottinghamshire, said teenager Tasmia Haque died at the on October 3.

Opening an inquest into Tasmia's death at Nottingham Council House on Friday (November 1), Miss Gingell said Tasmia was identified by her mother, Zainab.

Brief details were given at the hearing and an investigation is underway.

The case will be listed for a hearing on a date to be confirmed, the coroner said.

Miss Gingell offered her condolences to the family.

The hearing was told Tasmia was born on March 11, 2007. No family members were in attendance on Friday afternoon.

Last month, detectives from Nottinghamshire Police said officers were not looking for anyone else in relation to the teenage girl's death.

Speaking previously, Detective Inspector Sam Austin said: "This is an extremely sensitive case that has understandably provoked emotion and caused great sadness within the local community.

NottinghamshireLive reported last month that Tasmia had been a Year 8 pupil at Nottingham Academy.
