An inquest has been opened in to the death of a "hero" dad of seven who died while rescuing two of his children at sea.
Jonathan Stevens, 36, was visiting Barmouth beach with his children when two of them got in to difficulty in the water on Sunday, August 2 this year.
North Wales Live report s that the plasterer managed to pull his kids to safety after they got caught in a riptide.
The inquest opening in Caernarfon today heard how Mr Stevens, of Woodside in Telford, was later found unresponsive in the water and was airlifted to hospital.
Sadly, he was pronounced dead at around 3.15pm in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, that day.
The investigation in to Mr Stevens' death is still ongoing.
The inquest held in Caernarfon has now been adjourned pending the outcome of the investigation.
Tributes poured in for Mr Stevens after news of his tragic death broke.
Family friends also launched an online fundraiser in his memory with all donations given to Mr Stevens' children.
Following his death his partner Laura Burford, who was at their home in Telford when the incident happenned, said she was "absolutely devastated" to have lost "the love of [her] life".
