Inquest opens after young woman collapsed on street in Moss Side... her cause of death is still not known

An inquest has opened after a young woman collapsed and died on a street in Moss Side.

Keeley McKenzie, 32, was found lying unconscious by a member of the public on Moss Lane East on Thursday, 27 May.

Paramedics were called to the scene shortly after midnight, but sadly Ms McKenzie died at the scene.

Police believe she may have suffered a medical episode prior to collapsing.

It is understood Ms McKenzie had suffered from a long-term medical condition.

Manchester Coroner's Court heard that her cause of death was still unascertained, following an initial post-mortem examination.

Further tests are currently being conducted by a cardiologist and a neuropathologist, the court heard.

Area Coroner for Manchester City, Zak Golembeck said he had received a file from GMP in relation to the death.

"On 27 May at around 00.40 hours a member of the public was walking home in Hulme when they walked through an alleyway and noticed a body lying face down on the floor," he said.

"At the time this individual flagged down another individual and a man in a car and told him to ring an ambulance.

"One of the individuals who stopped was instructed to perform resuscitation but Ms McKenzie was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There was a police investigation and it was noted at the time that Keeley didn't have her mobile phone with her which her family had reported she left the house with.

"There were a number of hypothesises held by the investigating officer."

Mr Golembeck said that as a result of this information, he had requested that a forensic post-mortem was undertaken.

Ms McKenzie's cause of death remains unascertained, and the inquest was adjourned pending the results of examinations from a cardiologist and neuropathologist.

Following the news of the tragedy, scores of Ms McKenzie's friends took to social media to pay tribute to the 'sweetest girl.'

Victoria Black wrote: "RIP Keeley. You was [sic] such a beautiful soul always reaching out to see how everybody was.

"I will cherish all our memories from school together. Such a beautiful person inside and out. Sleep tight beautiful."

Jodie Austin said: "What is this world. RIP Keeley the sweetest girl, you had a heart of pure gold and I am so thankful I got to share some amazing memories with you.

"You was [sic] too precious for this horrible world. Sleep tight angel."

Speaking to the M.E.N, Helen Wood said: "She was that person who looked out for everyone. So caring and thoughtful.

"Constantly sharing posts trying to find missing people. She was an angel."
