Inquest opened into death of cyclist, 35, who died after collision

A cyclist died from head injuries after a collision in Cropwell Butler, an inquest heard.

The rider was James Corlett, who was 35 when the tragedy took place on May 13.

The inquest was opened and adjourned by Assistant Coroner Gordon Clow at Nottingham Council House.

He said Mr Corlett was identified by his wife and that a post mortem examination had been carried out.

This gave "the provisional cause of death as severe head injuries," said Mr Clow.

No witnesses were called for the brief hearing. No date has been set for the inquest to be completed.

Mr Clow said: "It will be adjourned for further enquiries."

He passed his condolences to the family and friends of Mr Corlett.

At the time, police officers said that Mr Corlett's cycle had been in collision with a car just after 2.10pm on Radcliffe Road. They closed the road for most of the day as they compiled evidence.

Police asked for witnesses to come forward and hand over dashcam footage.

The crew of the air ambulance were among the medics who went to the scene to care for Mr Corlett.
