Inquest opened into death of 1-year-old baby who suffered with rare brain condition

The inquest into the death of a baby who suffered from a rare brain condition has been opened.

Arliya-Leigh Bull died at the Queen's Medical Centre on November 15 last year at the age of one.

Arliya-Leigh was born on February 5, 2019 with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) - a type of brain damage caused by a lack of oxygen at birth.

Her mother Laura Bagworth was told by doctors to prepare herself for the worst when Arliya-Leigh was just a few hours old.

Despite this, she celebrated her first birthday in February last year, with mum Laura saying the family lived "each day as the last with her".

After a post-mortem examination, a provisional cause of death was given as Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy at birth.

Assistant Coroner Gordon Clow opened the inquest into Arliya-Leigh's death at the Council House in Nottingham on Wednesday, May 26.

Mr Clow passed on his condolences and best wishes to Arliya-Leigh's family.

The date for a future hearing has not yet been set.
